Rear Windows (with notifications, mentions and feeds)
Swivelling 180 degrees on my desk chair, I was confronted with my framed poster of the film Rear Window. I looked out of my back window, again. The synergy struck me.
I ended up writing something about it - the piece ‘Why don’t we just watch…Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window’ was in the Big Issue North last week and is now available online.
I’d been avoiding writing about the pandemic as much as possible. I explained a bit about that in a previous newsletter. The moment seemed right and I wanted to try to use the film to work out my own sense of what is happening and the feelings associated with escalating lockdowns. So, I’ve tried to write about the film and about what is happening. It’s only a short piece, but I’m really pleased to write for the Big Issue North. The article has a great photo of James Stewart too. Exactly as I hoped it might. The image captures his confinement and growing obsession.
Anyway, I’m keeping this as a very short newsletter with just a link to that article. I hope you will read it and perhaps send it to anyone you think might be interested. I’ve been working on the next proper issue of the newsletter, which will have a range of things within it and will be out next week.
The Big Issue North is a very important institution. The lockdown means that the vendors aren’t able to sell the magazine on the streets. Information about how you might support the Big Issue North is here. That link contains information about their hardship fund and information about subscribing to the magazine (or using their online shop). I would recommend subscribing, if you are able.
